3-day family trip: Adventures in the borderlands
Looking for a nearby getaway where the whole family can have fun and enjoy exciting activities? Here’s a suggested three-day or weekend itinerary filled with memorable experiences for both young and old.
Day 1: Rock Carvings, Archery, and Mini Golf
Start your trip at the Vitlycke Museum in Tanum, where you’ll see impressive rock carvings listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to join a guided tour for a deeper understanding of the Bronze Age and the meaning behind the carvings. Guided tours are available daily from midsummer onwards and are free of charge.
After the museum, visit the nearby Bronze Age Farm, where goats roam freely – a favourite among children! You can also try your hand at archery.
For lunch or dinner, head to Grebbestad, where you can enjoy fresh seafood at Grebys Fisk- & Skaldjursrestaurang or savour locally sourced dishes at the traditional Restaurant Telegrafen.
Accommodation options include Grebbestadfjorden Camping, where you can rent a cabin and enjoy mini golf on-site.
Day 2: Adventure Park, Water Park, and Ancient Stones
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Sjögrens i Backen in Grebbestad. Their daily buffet is especially popular, with freshly made waffles added at weekends.
Before heading north, stop by Greby Grave Field, the largest Iron Age burial site in Bohuslän, featuring nearly 200 visible mounds, standing stones, and stone circles.
Cross the border at Svinesund to visit Klatring på Grensen, one of Scandinavia’s largest climbing parks. With 16 tree-top courses and multiple zip-lines, it’s perfect for all ages from 2.5 years and up. You can bring your own food or grab a bite at the park’s kiosk.
After an active afternoon, head to Quality Hotel Sarpsborg to check in. This activity hotel boasts a 2,000 sqm water park with pools, hot tubs, slides, and more. The hotel also offers various activities for children and adults. Enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant or explore dining options in Sarpsborg city centre, just 5 km away.
Day 3: Fun with Purpose at INSPIRIA Science Center
Following a good night’s sleep, a delicious hotel breakfast, and perhaps a morning swim, stroll over to INSPIRIA Science Center, located right next to the hotel.
Here, you’ll find over 70 interactive exhibits, and in the planetarium, you can embark on a journey to stars, planets, and galaxies. Sit back in the comfortable cinema seats and enjoy the show!
Outside, the activity park is open year-round. Bring your bikes or borrow some from INSPIRIA to explore the trails. A bungee trampoline adds extra fun for the kids.
End your mini holiday with a relaxing lunch at the science centre’s café.
