Our cities are Askim and Mysen

Askim was granted city status in 1996 and Mysen in 1998. Both places are now undergoing rapid development. Things are being built, created and changed from year to year. Askim has the largest shopping center in Indre Østfold. Mysen aims to become “Eastern Norway's most attractive small city”. There are plenty of opportunities here for young and old alike to enjoy themselves - take a trip to Sprett activity park, Østfoldbadet or a trip to Momarken horsetrack. Slitu, with Scandic Brennemoen Hotel and Morenen shoppingcentre, is located in the middle of the cities.

This is an area with a lot of war history

Here we have great forts and fortresses that you can visit. Along the border, there are many refugee routes from the days of the war. During the year, many interesting events are organized in the various municipalities - including refugee marches. We have fine museums that not only have war history but also many other exciting things.

Spydeberg

With Lyseren, Skimtefjell, Mørk golf and other beautiful areas, Spydeberg is a place where you can have great nature experiences. The pride of the village, Spydeberg Rock, offers you great cultural experiences, and the town center has many fine shops and cafés. And let's not forget Spydeberg vicarage, which played an important role in our constitution and has a fantastic formal garden with useful and ornamental plants.

Skiptvet

"Meieribyen" - dairycity, as the village is called, is a small place not far from the river Glomma, Norways longest river. Today you'll find a petrol station, grocery stores, Europris and some small shops in the center. Take a hike to Jonsrudåsen, visit Vamma power station and watch the waterfall roar in the spring. How about a dog sledding trip, a visit to Nes Lensemuseum or a raft trip down the Glomma?

Trøgstad

Trøgstad enjoys a scenic location with close proximity to the forest and the Glomma river flowing past. A beautiful cultural landscape is what strikes you when you pass through the area. The highest peak in Østfold can be found in Trøgstad - Viktjernhøgda, at 331 meters above sea level. If you take the Trøgstad trail, it will take you to this peak. In Trøgstad you'll also find a bird-watching tower, lots of lovely ponds to fish in, and Olberg Camping can tempt you with a moose safari. If you don't see a moose, you get your money back.

The region is also known for motorsport.

The brothers, Henning and Petter Solberg are from the district. At Rudskogen, which has become a fantastic facility with restaurant and conference facilities, you can both be a spectator and participate yourself on both the main track and the go-cart track.

Along the Swedish border

The Halden Canal runs like a blue thread along the Swedish border, and along it you'll find the idyllic lockvillages of Strømsfoss and Ørje. There are several boats on the Halden Canal that you can be a passenger on - both motorboats and steamboats.

Paddling is popular

In the region, there are several places to paddle a canoe/kayak, and there are several rental options. Here you will find peace and quiet and can lower your shoulders. Along the Halden Canal you can experience three lock places. In Ørje, these are still operated by hand and are a popular sight.

Rakkestad

In the heart of Østfold lies Rakkestad. Here you can choose from a wide range of outdoor activities. Whether you want to go full speed ahead at Rudskogen, take the family on a canoe trip, climb Linnekleppen, visit a museum or shop in niche stores worthy of a big city.

Strømsfoss.

Enjoy the cozy atmosphere in the old historic surroundings along the Halden Canal. Experience fine art at the Strømsfoss gallery, take a trip to the old general store, have a cup of coffee on the veranda of Møllerens Hus / the millers house, or go shopping here. You'll find a warm atmosphere and good vibes.

Ørje

Everyone should visit the charming little lock village of Ørje and experience its unique atmosphere during the summer. We're talking village charm, historic surroundings, steamboats, locks, Haldenvassdragets canal museum, fort, niche shops, the play Sootspelet, beaches and rental of various canoes and water toys.
