Many of these towers were originally built as fire lookout towers to detect forest fires at an early stage,

while others were meant for outdoor and nature experiences. Today, observation towers are popular stops for both families and hikers, where you can enjoy panoramic views of forests, lakes, and coastal landscapes.

There's something special about climbing to the top of an observation tower. Often, it's the view that stays with you the most after a wonderful Sunday hike.

Getting up high and gaining a better perspective is something deeply rooted in human nature. Fear of heights – or rather the fear of falling – is at the same time one of the few rational fears we have. This combination makes observation towers the perfect challenge for a Sunday hike; here you can test your fear of heights in reasonably safe surroundings, while also experiencing a strange sense of achievement with nothing more than simply reaching the top of the tower. Gazing out over the treetops or out to sea can make the big, wide world seem beautiful and untouched.
