On a private peninsula, between the old locks from 1856 and the newer ones from 1924, lie the North and South Lockkeeper’s Houses called Sluseassistentboligen nord and Sluseassistenboligen sør

Each house has two apartments, one on each floor. Both have their own entrance, and each apartment can accommodate six people. Currently, only the second-floor apartment is available for rent. During the day, you can watch—or even participate in—the locking of canoes and small boats. You might even see one of the steamships passing right outside your window. In the southwest-facing, newly restored garden, you can enjoy a stunning sunset, perhaps with a fishing rod in hand.

Via Ferrata Haldenkanalen is located just nearby, and tickets can be purchased at the kiosk or online. The route ends with a zipline that passes over the roof of the Lockkeeper’s House. The surrounding area also offers several lovely swimming spots and hiking opportunities.
