The manor on Rød – simply majestic

Rød herregård boasts one of Norway’s largest and best-preserved manor estates. During the summer season, parts of the estate are open to the public, guided by knowledgeable experts through the historic rooms. Rød Manor is far more than an ordinary museum!

This magnificent estate has a 300-year history, and you can see the interiors as they were when Rød was inhabited. Complete with period furniture, art, hunting trophies, and one of the country’s largest weapon collections.

Guided Tours – Step into History
Regular guided tours are offered inside the house from May to September. Outside these times, private tours, including in the Manor Gardens, can be arranged for groups. More information about times and prices can be found here.

Fascinating Interior History
The house features room after room, including the library, ballroom, and many others. On the tour, you can see everything as it once was – from the billiard table in the library and the hammerklavier used in countless house concerts, to artwork by artists such as Askevold and Erik Wærenskiold.

The lion-skin rugs, stuffed animals, Herrebø faience, and chandeliers are sure to take your breath away. This enchanting world has remained largely unchanged for over 50 years.

The Manor Garden – The Cherry on Top
The adjoining garden was originally laid out as a large Baroque garden and later expanded with an English landscape style. The soil, brought back from England as ballast on Norwegian timber ships, carried seeds and spores that have influenced the garden’s flora ever since.

Highlights of the Garden
Among the garden’s unique features are an octagonal pavilion from 1756, a hazel alley, and a linden tunnel – a popular gathering spot always open to the public. Ponds, a hermit’s hut, a salute battery, and a burial site also add an element of discovery to your visit.
