Experience the Halden Canal with your own boat
With your own leisure boat, you can enjoy the 80 km long Halden Canal at your own pace, and the journey takes you through 6 lakes, three locks and endless nature experiences. Go ashore 39.5 meters higher or lower than the quay you went on board with.
During the trip you can enjoy the beautiful nature and along the canal you can swim, fish, eat, experience art, culture and the beautiful nature. Lower your shoulders and let your resting heart rate drop while you hear the sound of rippling sea. A journey through the canal is relaxing, but also a journey for the adventurous. Maybe you see eagles or wild boars along the way? And if this is your first trip in the canal, you are guaranteed to have an exciting experience when you are locked up. You will find the locks in Ørje, Strømsfoss and Brekke. The latter is Europe's highest continuous lock staircase with a lifting height of 27 meters.
The Halden Canal takes you from Skulerud in the north to Tistedal in the south, or vice versa. Through 6 lakes; Skulerudsjøen, Rødenessjøen, Øymarksjøen, Aremarksjøen, Aspern and Femsjøen. The Halden Canal has no connection to the sea, nor to the Dalsland Canal. But if you have a desire to get by sea, or from Dalsland's canal by boat, there are opportunities for transport. Here you avoid the hustle and bustle of moorings on the guest piers, and there is plenty of space for everyone. The lock systems are serviced during the season, which extends from mail to August, and you pay the lock fee with Vipps. Lock times and prices can be found here.
