Lowland waterways
Inner Østfold has several nutrient-rich lowland rivers. The Rakkestadelva and Mysenelva rivers flow into the Glomma, while the Hobølelva flows down towards Vansjø in Råde (Outer Østfold). Common to these rivers is that carp dominate. No fishing license is required for these rivers. In the fishing community, the Rakkestadelva is considered a good competition river with abundant fish. The Mysenelva is known for its large roach and bream, while the Hobølelva is best known for its large bream and tench.
The nutrient-rich smaller lakes
The rolling agricultural landscape is interrupted here and there by nutrient-rich lowland lakes. These include Ertevannet in Rakkestad, Lundebyvannet in Hærland, and Grefslisjøen in Trøgstad. These are nutrient-rich lakes with plenty of fish, where fishing is usually free. Lyseren in Spydeberg is the lake with the clearest water. Here you need a fishing license, and there is good fishing for perch and pike.
The mountain areas
are dotted with hundreds of lakes, ponds, and pools. Perch and trout are the dominant fish species here. There are a number of different fishing license zones from Degernes in the south to Trøgstad in the north. There is usually a minimum size limit for trout, and in some places there is also a maximum size limit for several species.
In some cases, fishing licenses can be purchased at Inatur.no.
In other cases, there are self-service boxes along the roads leading into the areas, or you can buy them at sports shops. For questions about sport fishing, please contact the Norwegian Hunting and Fishing Association Østfold at ostfold@njff.no or by phone at 69222006.
