Indre Østfold is well known among motor bikers for its many "motorbike roads". These are roads winding through forests and hills, by glittering lakes and rivers to the left, to the right, up- and down hill. Travelling never gets boring. It is precisely this variety that makes Indre Østfold a favorite area for motorcyclists. The roads are often narrow and winding, with little traffic. Here you can truly experience the joy of riding in scenic surroundings.

From small towns to wilderness

Take the time to drive away from the main roads, such as the E6 and E18. The small roads crisscrossing the region lead you through cozy towns with village charm, small cafes and local shops - places where you can take a well-deserved break, recharge your batteries and perhaps strike up a conversation with the locals. There are also idyllic lakes and ponds along the way. When the sun is shining and your driving clothes are getting hot, there is hardly anything better than stopping for a cooling dip or a quiet picnic by the water's edge.

In Ørje motor bikers gather at Cirkle K - right beside the highway E18. Båtcafeen by the Ørje locks is also a popular place, where you can explore Haldenkanale.

Rakkestad

In Rakkestad at Cirkle K you always find other motorcyclists to talk to. Or over at Raymond's Diner and Essoen motor meeting Tuesdays at Essoe. If you want to stay a few days, you will find accommodation in all varieties - everything from simple shacks and campsites to cabins, hotels and spa experiences.

Askim

Many motorcyclists ride around Solbergfoss when they are out and about, so you can often find motorcyclists chatting here.

Proposals for motorcycle routes

Halden – Ørje – Haldenkanalen – Rømskog – Oslo

Start in Halden and follow the road along the Halden Canal northwards. Enjoy the views at the locks and continue up along the wilderness road to Rømskog. From there you can either head towards Oslo, or explore more of the borderland towards Sweden.

Halden – Strømsfoss – Rakkestad – Askim – Enebakk

A classic round with varying landscapes, winding sections and many pleasant stopping points. Strømsfoss offers both history and beautiful nature, while Rakkestad and Askim have good places for food and drink. Between Askim and Enebakk you take the tour past Solbergfoss Power Station.

Oslo – Askim – Skiptvet – Svinndal – Våler – Hobøl

A round trip that takes you through small towns, forests and open cultural landscapes – a perfect day trip for motorcyclists who want to experience something new.

Take your time - find your own path

The best thing about riding a motorcycle in Indre Østfold is the opportunity to choose your own path. There are countless alternative routes to the main roads. With a map in hand or a GPS on the handlebars, you can easily find small roads that offer driving experiences in a class of their own.

A little tip: Take the time to plan some stops, and include time to enjoy the scenery. Maybe you will find a place you want to come back to – whether it is a quiet lake, a small gallery or a cozy café.
