A charming little town close to Oslo. An exciting small town with plenty to offer. Here you’ll find restaurants, activities, and easy access to nature with great paddling spots. Spydeberg is often referred to as the “rock town,” because every year it hosts a major rock festival—Spydeberg Rock—where the whole town gets involved and people come from near and far.
Spydeberg is surrounded by beautiful nature. Norway’s longest river, the Glomma, flows on the outskirts. Here in Spydeberg, you can enjoy active days. Visit a museum, shop in the niche boutiques, and grab a meal. If you’re the more active type, there are ski resorts, golf courses, many marked trails in the forest, and great paddling opportunities on Lyseren, to name a few. If you’re driving the E18 from Sweden, it’s easy to tell when you’ve reached Spydeberg—when you cross the Smaalenene Bridge and the Glomma River, you’re in Spydeberg.
A Stroll Through Spydeberg
Take a stroll through downtown. Stop by one of the lovely shops, and grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants. Take the kids to the “Thousand-Year Site,” right behind Rema 1000. Here, the kids can have fun at the playground while you enjoy the sun. Bring your partner and stroll up along Hyllibekken; along the trail, you’ll find questions that will entertain both young and old.
There's plenty to discover in Spydeberg when you head out

Plan a shopping trip to Spydeberg
Spydeberg has a single main street, so it’s easy to find your way around. And the street isn’t so long that you can’t enjoy a leisurely stroll. You won’t find any large shopping malls here, but rather small, charming niche shops offering a variety of sports equipment, clothing, flowers, fabric, yarn, home decor, children’s clothing, and more. Like most niche shops, the stores in Spydeberg are no exception. Here you’ll enjoy a great shopping experience and excellent service. The small town of Spydeberg is good at organizing downtown activities. Throughout the year, there are regular fun events in the town center, such as Village Day, Farmers in the City, the October Festival, and more.

Outdoor Activities in Spydeberg
Spydeberg offers plenty of opportunities for active days in both summer and winter. With Lake Lyseren right nearby, the area is ideal for both kayaking and swimming. It’s also just a short distance from downtown to the Glomma River, but please exercise caution. There can be strong currents in the water, especially during spring flooding. The area is also well-suited for hiking or skiing in the forest. Spydebergkart.no provides an overview of all the great trails Spydeberg has to offer. Whether you’re an avid hiker or someone who just wants to spend a quiet day in nature. Skimtefjellhytta and Skihytta are open for dining on select Sundays during the winter season. There is often little snow in Indre Østfold, but Spydeberg has a great facility with artificial snow—Spydeberg Ski Arena—so the cross-country skiing season is long here. The lighted trail, the ski lodge, the ski play area, and the artificial snow facility are located at Myrberg in the very north of Spydeberg. You can also follow the Spydeberg Trail Team on Facebook for updates on trail conditions.

Staying in and around Spydeberg
Historic Spydeberg
Spydeberg is home to a treasure that simply must be seen and experienced. Here stands Spydeberg Rectory, which played a key role in 1814. It was here that King Christian Frederik held a cabinet meeting on August 8—later known as the Spydeberg Cabinet Meeting—which laid the groundwork for the union treaty with Sweden. This was finalized as the Convention of Moss on August 14, 1814. The rectory also features a stunning formal garden, recreated based on historical documents. Here, useful plants and ornamental plants grow side by side. It was opened by the Minister of Culture in 2014
