1. Walk across Europe’s longest suspension bridge in a Via Ferrata:

Via Ferrata Haldenkanalen at the locks Brekke sluser takes you to new heights and offers thrilling challenges for almost the whole family. A suspension bridge 15 meters above the Halden Canal, an exciting climbing route, and a 250-meter zipline are just some of the adventures waiting for you. If it feels too daring for the adults, we’re sure the kids will be brave enough. The facility is suitable for children aged 10 and up.

2. Experience the Halden Canal.

Rent a canoe and find peace along the enchanting Halden Canal. There are many beautiful shelters and campsites, making it perfect for scenic canoe trips along the canal and in the surrounding area. The Halden Canal stretches 80 km and offers stunning nature, cultural landmarks, and three lock sites with a total of eight lock chambers – Ørje, Strømsfoss, and Brekke. The latter features Northern Europe’s tallest connected lock staircase, with a total lift of 27 meters.

3. Time flies at Halden Padel Center!

There’s fun and action for all ages and interests. Halden Padel Center has three padel courts, available to rent by the hour – though we can guarantee time will fly, so we recommend booking two hours at a time. This is Halden’s own playhouse, with billiards, table tennis, foosball, and basketball. In other words, there’s a great chance that you and your family will leave full of excitement.

4. Sleep high up in the trees at the Treetop Cabins at Grensen

Give the kids a magical summer experience at the Treetop Cabins at Grensen! Here, the whole family can sleep high among the trees, surrounded by the calm of nature and the sound of birdsong. The cabins are comfortable and unique, offering the chance to unwind from everyday life and explore the forest together.

5. Swimming fun for the whole family

In Halden, you’ll find many swimming spots, both in freshwater and saltwater – from small forest lakes to beaches along the Iddefjord and out to the sea. When the weather is warm and the urge to swim arises, you can enjoy spots like Krusetertjern, one of the city’s many swimming areas. At Kruseter, there’s a sandy beach and diving boards from the rocks, as well as a kiosk and rental of water toys and sports equipment.

6. Experience a climbing park together

"Klatring på Grensen" is one of Norway’s largest and most exciting climbing parks. Unforgettable experiences await up in the trees, with a focus on fun and achievement. The park offers climbing courses and activities for all ages, from the youngest at 2.5 years old to adults. Whatever your skill level or experience, you’ll find challenges that suit you.

7. Magical hiking tips for the whole family

At Ormtjernhytta in Halden, there’s plenty to discover – from plants, animals, and insects to creatures from the world of fairy tales! Here you’ll find a family-friendly trail around Ormtjern, featuring trolls and fairy tale characters along the path. Fun for both young and old. The trail itself is 1 kilometer through easy forest terrain. While the hike isn’t long, it’s recommended to set aside plenty of time to play and explore the magical creatures. It’s also advisable to leave strollers behind and use a baby carrier for the little ones.

8. Visit Smaalensbanen Model Railway

Take the family to Smaalensbanen Model Railway, a fascinating model train layout at Svinesund, just 400 meters from the E6 and the iconic old Svinesund Bridge. Here, you can experience Norwegian nature and cultural landscapes recreated in exquisite 1:87 scale detail.

9. Discover Rød Herregård

Ready for a delightful manor summer? Visit Rød Herregård and join guided tours suitable for the whole family! This magnificent estate has a 300-year history, and you can explore the interiors from when Rød was inhabited, complete with period furniture and artwork.

10. Besøk Fredriksten festning

Fredriksten Fortress is a place rich in history and full of exciting activities for the whole family. Explore the fortress’s dramatic past by scanning QR codes around the site, providing insights into important events and historical figures connected to the fortress.

For the little ones, there’s a large playground near Fredriksten Kro and the parking area – perfect for a fun break. If you’re seeking more action, test your skills with a round of mini-golf at Fredriksten Camping or challenge yourself in the Escape Room at Fredriksten Hotel.
