"Yes, please, both," some say. In Indre Østfold you can have the urban experiences, but the wilderness experiences are not far away either. In addition, you can easily combine a few quiet days in Indre Østfold with the hectic, vibrant life in Oslo, as the distance is short.

Our towns, Askim and Mysen

Askim received city status in 1996 and Mysen in 1998. Both places are now undergoing rapid development. Building, creation and change are taking place year after year. Askim is the largest shopping centre in Inner Østfold. Mysen aims to become "East Norway's most attractive small town". There are many opportunities for young and old to develop here - take a trip to Sprett activity park, Østfoldbadet or a trip to Momarken trotting track. Right between Mysen and Askim, you find Slitu with Scandic Brennemoen Hotel and a supermarket.

This is an area with lot of war history

Here we have beautiful forts and fortresses that you can visit. Along the border there are many refugee routes from the days of the war. During the year there are many interesting events organized in the various municipalities - including refugee marches. We have nice museums that not only have war history but also many other exciting things.

Spydeberg

With Lyseren, Skimtefjell, Mørk golf and other beautiful areas, Spydeberg is a place where you can have great nature experiences. The pride of the village, Spydeberg Rock, serves you great cultural experiences, and the center has many nice shops and cafes. We must also not forget Spydeberg vicary, which played an important role in our constitution, and has a fantastic formal garden with useful and ornamental plants.

Skiptvet

The Dairy Town, as the settlement is called, is a small place not far from the Glomma River. Today you will find a gas station, grocery stores, Europris and a few small shops in the center. Take a hike to Jonsrudåsen, visit the Vamma power station and see the waterfall in the spring. How about a dog sled ride, a museum visit to Nes Lensemuseum or a raft trip down the Glomma?

Trøgstad

Trøgstad is located in a scenic location, close to the forest and the Glomma River that flows past. Beautiful cultural landscapes are what strike you as you drive through the area. The highest peak in Østfold is in Trøgstad - Viktjernhøgda, which rises 331 meters above sea level. If you take the Trøgstad Trail, this will take you to this peak. In Trøgstad you will also find birdwatching towers, many nice ponds where you can fish, and Olberg Camping can tempt you with a moose safari. If you don't see any moose, you will get your money back.

The regionen is also known for motorsports.

Brothers Henning and Petter Solberg are from the district. At Rudskogen, which has become a fantastic facility with a restaurant and conference facilities, you can both be a spectator and participate yourself on both the main track and the go-kart track.

Paddling is popular

In the region there are several places to paddle canoe / kayak and there are several opportunities for rental. Here you will find peace and can lower your shoulders. Along the Halden Canal you can experience three lock sites. In Ørje these are still operated by hand, and are a popular sight.

Rakkestad

Right in the heart of Østfold lies Rakkestad. Here you can choose from a wide range of outdoor activities. Whether you want to go full speed at Rudskogen, take the family on a canoe trip, climb Linnekleppen, visit a museum or shop in niche stores worthy of a big city.

Strømsfoss

Enjoy the pleasant atmosphere in the old historical surroundings along the Halden Canal. Experience fine art at the Strømsfoss gallery, visit the old general store, or have a cup of coffee on the veranda of Møllerens Hus, or go shopping in the house. Here is a warm atmosphere and a good mood.

Ørje

Everyone must visit the charming little lock town of Ørje and experience the unique atmosphere during the summer. We are talking about village charm, historical surroundings, steamboats, locks, the Haldenvassdraget Canal Museum, fort, niche shops, Soot Spelet, bathing beaches and rental of various canoes and water toys.
