Museums and attractions

Indre Østfold offers a rich selection of historical and cultural attractions. Visitors can explore several exciting museums ranging from Haldenvassdragets kanalmuseum in Ørje, which tells the story of the Halden Canal, to the Home Front Museum in Rakkestad, which provides an insight into the role of the resistance movement during World War II.

The region is also known for its impressive power stations such as Solbergfoss, Vamma and Kykkelsrud, which are important hydropower landmarks. The historic forts and defenses, such as Trøgstad Fort, Høytorp Fort, Ørje Fort and other military facilities, give a strong impression of the region's role in Norway's defense through the ages.

Along the border you can experience the charming Halden Canal, with its locks and steamboats that still run on the water, and there are also several rural museums that provide an insight into life in the countryside. Indre Østfold is therefore a perfect destination for those who want to experience nature, history and culture all at once.
